Background / History
BreastCancerStories.org is an online support network
where patients and care givers can write, read and share
their experiences with loved ones and with one another.
What truly makes BreastCancerStories.org different from
a traditional blog site is that the stories are all
searchable by location, age, type of breast cancer /
treatment, marital status, ethnic background and more.
It's very therapeutic to find others going through a
similar situation, read their stories and even connect
with them directly through the website.
BreastCancerStories.org launched in June of 2006.
Since that time as many as 10,000 people have visited
the site each month to share their stories and/or to
read and connect with others. Because the world of
blogging has taken off dramatically over the last few
years, the organization has decided to focus its
(primary) efforts on the development of a new, local
breast cancer support program called MY BREAST CANCER
SUPPORT (My BCS).
BreastCancerStories.org as it exists today (with a
few technology updates) will remain in place and will
continue to be the registered non-profit name of the
organization.
My Breast Cancer Support
The objective of BreastCancerStories.org’s new My
Breast Cancer Support program is to work with the local
community hospitals / cancer centers to develop a
support tool kit that will help their patients as well
as family members to better cope while someone is going
through treatment.
The hospitals we are working with include Portsmouth
Regional Hospital, Wentworth Douglas Hospital, Exeter
Hospital, Frisbee Hospital, York Hospital and the York
County Cancer Center.
